Ready. Set. Give.

Upcoming community giving day events provide 24-hour focus to the importance of philanthropy within Nebraska and on our University of Nebraska campuses.

Omaha Gives! – May 21

On May 21, from midnight to midnight, join others in supporting local nonprofits in Omaha through Omaha Gives! The online giving event brings donors together to support the work of organizations throughout the Omaha community.

Two University of Nebraska entities participating this year in Omaha Gives! address issues critical to the Omaha and campus communities: University of Nebraska at Omaha’s Maverick Food Pantry and the UNMC SHARING (Student Health Alliance Reaching Indigent Needy Groups).

Maverick Food Pantry

Food insecurity is becoming more evident on college campuses. And UNO is no exception. In 2013, UNO created the Maverick Food Pantry which provides nutritionally balanced food assistance packages to current members of the UNO community who are in need. To date, the pantry has received more than 400 requests and distributed more than 6,500 pounds of food.

The mission of the Maverick Food Pantry is to contribute to UNO’s culture of caring by providing food to those in immediate need at UNO and connecting them with resources in the greater Omaha area for long-term assistance. The pantry, located on campus, runs entirely on monetary and non-perishable donations.

UNMC SHARING

The University of Nebraska Medical Center organization enhances the well-being of the Omaha community by providing high-quality, low-cost health care and human services to those in need. UNMC SHARING oversees four student-run clinics in Omaha. These clinics are dedicated to primary health care, HIV and STD testing, primary care for Type 2 diabetes and vision care.

Since the organization’s creation in 1997, the SHARING clinics have provided medical care to more than 1,400 patients annually.

The student-run SHARING clinics provide care in multidisciplinary education settings that empower patients and instill the values of service and compassion in UNMC students.

Give To Lincoln Day – May 29

Give To Lincoln Day is your chance to make a real difference in Lincoln’s quality of life. We encourage you to join others for a record-setting day of giving on May 29.

Every donation you make on May 29 helps your favorite Lincoln charities, including the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. Your gift goes even further this day because participating organizations also receive a percentage-based share of a $300,000 matching challenge gift.

On this day, UNL provides focus to gifts in support of the Nebraska Legends Scholarship. This scholarship represents a priority for UNL and its effort to recruit top students to Nebraska. Nebraska Legends provides a support system for new students and represents a critical part of the university’s efforts to reach an enrollment of 30,000 students.
