Information we collect
Because of the relationship constituents may have with the University of Nebraska or its affiliates, they may choose to voluntarily submit personal information, including names, addresses, email addresses, phone numbers, employment information, graduation information and giving information.
The foundation also maintains internal reports that document donor giving records and other financial information, contacts, philanthropic interests and fundraising strategies. This information is considered an internal work product and is considered trade secret information vital to the foundation’s business objective and mission. This information is protected under Nebraska’s Trade Secrets Act and will not be disclosed to any external source unless required to do so by law.
When using the foundation’s website, some information about your computer operating system, web browser or network may be collected to only help us improve our website function. Aggregate data about the pages that visitors access on our site and the sources of visits may be collected as well. This is a standard business practice.
Your privacy and security
The security of our constituent information is important to us, and we keep all information secure from possible unauthorized access and use. The foundation maintains physical and electronic safeguards to protect nonpublic, personally identifiable information and to comply with federal and state laws. Also, the foundation regularly reviews policies and practices, monitors its information system networks and evaluates the strength of its security protocol.
How we use information
The University of Nebraska Foundation uses the information we collect to operate our business, to communicate with constituents, to improve our products and personalize one’s experiences. In carrying out these purposes, we combine data we collect to give one a more seamless, consistent and personalized experience. Except for special instances stated in this policy, the foundation does not sell information it collects.
The foundation uses constituent information to communicate by mail, email and phone. The information also enables the organization to cultivate and maintain relationships with the university’s constituents and to develop philanthropic strategies that advance the university.
The foundation may share information temporarily with third-party vendors, service providers or other organizations that may be business-related if it’s first determined there is a benefit to the university’s alumni and friends.
Constituent information is shared with the University of Nebraska and its affiliates to enable them to engage specific constituent groups and advance their missions and support the overall mission of the university. These partners include:
- University of Nebraska
- Nebraska Alumni Association
- University of Nebraska at Omaha Alumni Association
- University of Nebraska at Kearney Alumni Association
- University of Nebraska Medical Center Alumni Association
The university’s alumni associations may provide limited information to commercial vendors who may have services or products of interest to their alumni. Contact your alumni association if you wish to opt out of receiving this information or offers.
The University of Nebraska Foundation is also the fundraising agency for the Nebraska Medicine health care network, which is the clinical and educational partner of the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Because of this partnership, the foundation receives extremely limited protected health information (PHI) about individuals who received service at Nebraska Medicine.
We do not receive any information regarding health conditions or diagnoses. Because of this partnership, the foundation is subject to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), a federal law created to provide protection of personal health information and to safeguard access to and use of PHI. Any PHI data is maintained securely with limited access in compliance with HIPAA requirements.
