A new Nebraska Public Media television program produced in partnership with the University of Nebraska Foundation takes a look at new and innovative ways the University of Nebraska is recruiting and training the workforce of the future.

“Nebraska Focused: Building the Future” airs at 7 p.m. CT, Thursday, Feb. 3 on World.

The program may also be watched anytime on the Nebraska Public Media website at NebraskaPublicMedia.org/NebraskaFocused.

Like the U.S., Nebraska is grappling with a shortage of healthcare workers, educators and STEM professionals, all while the population is growing, becoming more diverse and rapidly aging. With added uncertainty coming from unknowns like climate change and global pandemics, it is difficult to predict and plan.

The 60-minute program focuses on how the University of Nebraska is nurturing a generation of problem solvers, and producing critical thinkers and capable leaders who are the future of the state, nation and the world.

On each of its four campuses — UNK, UNL, UNMC and UNO — the University of Nebraska is preparing for current and future challenges, looking outward and positioning the state at an advantage through research and workforce development.

The program also explores how university researchers are working across disciplines to create foods to improve human health at the Nebraska Food for Health Center.
