Foundation announces three new board directors
The University of Nebraska Foundation has announced the election of three new members to its board of directors. Paul Mendlik of Waterloo, Nebraska, Holly Ostergard of Lincoln, and Steve Seline of Omaha were elected by the foundation’s trustees to serve on the board for a three-year term from 2020 to 2023.
Carey Hamilton and Jane E. Miller, both of Omaha, were reelected to serve a second three-year term on the board.
The foundation also announced that Paul F. Engler of Amarillo, Texas, Norman R. Hedgecock of Lincoln, and Margaret M. Holman of New York City have concluded their terms as directors.
“We welcome our new board directors and thank our outgoing directors who have given so much of their time and talents to this organization,” said Brian Hastings, president and CEO. “We are a better organization because of each of our directors. They care deeply for this organization and are committed to our mission to grow relationships and resources that enable the University of Nebraska to change lives and save lives.”
Mendlik is president of Benridge, Inc. and was previously chief financial officer and treasurer of West Corporation for 13 years before retiring in 2015. He was previously with Deloitte for 25 years and served as partner in charge of the Nebraska and Iowa audit practice. He’s a graduate of the University of Nebraska–Lincoln College of Business and has been a trustee of the NU Foundation since 2017.
Ostergard is vice-chairwoman of Crete Carrier Corporation and president of the Acklie Charitable Foundation. She’s a graduate of the University of Nebraska–Lincoln College of Education and Human Sciences and has been a NU Foundation trustee since 1993. She received the foundation’s Perry W. Branch Award for Distinguished Volunteer Service in 2018 and is a member of Women Investing in Nebraska.
Seline is president of Walnut Private Equity Partners, LLC, and is president and owner of Walnut Radio, LLC, with radio stations in Nebraska and Illinois. He’s a graduate of the University of Nebraska at Omaha College of Business Administration and of Creighton University School of Law. He’s been a trustee of the NU Foundation since 2013.
Other current members of the foundation’s board of directors are Chair William D. Jackman of Dallas, Chair Elect Don Voelte of Omaha, Dan Bahensky of Kearney, Charles D. Fritch, M.D. of Bakersfield, California, Anne Hubbard of Omaha, Robert Kelley of Scottsbluff, Rodrigo López of Omaha, JoAnn Martin of Lincoln, Angie L. Muhleisen of Lincoln, J. Scott Nelson of Lincoln and Thomas H. Warren, Sr., of Omaha.
Directors who serve as ex officio board members are Jim Pillen of Columbus, chairman of the University of Nebraska board of regents; Walter “Ted” Carter of Lincoln, president of the University of Nebraska; and Hastings.
