Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica partnership supports Nebraska Veterinary Diagnostic Center

Veterinarians and producers in Nebraska can show their support through product purchases

Aug. 11, 2014 — Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica, Inc. (BIVI) began an alliance in 2014 with the University of Nebraska–Lincoln to help raise private funds for a new veterinary diagnostic laboratory. Through this commitment, BIVI has donated nearly $50,000 to date.

“We are very grateful for the investment Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica is making to support a new, state-of-the-art veterinary diagnostic center, which will provide improved service to livestock producers and veterinarians throughout the region and the country,” says Ronnie Green, University of Nebraska vice president of agriculture and natural resources. “This partnership helps to bring attention to this high-priority fund-raising initiative and the opportunity to be involved. We’re also very pleased to be the primary beef diagnostic lab partner with BIVI.”

Veterinarians and producers in Nebraska can help support the building of a new diagnostic laboratory through purchases of Pyramid 5 + Presponse SQ and Synanthic. BIVI has committed to donate $5 for every 100 doses of PYRAMID 5 + PRESPONSE SQ purchased, and $5 to $20 for each 1,000-milliliter to 4-liter purchase of SYNANTHIC.

“Our products have been helping cattle producers keep their herds healthy and profitable for decades,” says Dave Korbelik, director of U.S. Cattle Marketing for BIVI. “The cattle industry is experiencing some of its best times in recent history. Innovation, technology and a partnership with a knowledgeable veterinarian are all important for a cattleman’s recipe for success.  We are committed to helping foster these relationships through our alliance with the University of Nebraska.”

The planned new veterinary diagnostic laboratory facility will help ensure livestock producers and others have access to the best available diagnostics, research, education and outreach services.

BIVI’s gift made to the University of Nebraska Foundation supports plans to replace an aging facility that no longer meets modern laboratory standards. The new facility will enable the university to better serve veterinarians, livestock producers, public health officials and others around the country who depend on its services.

The center provides testing services to professionals and organizations across the nation, and is considered a national center of excellence for testing of certain diseases in livestock, which is important for keeping them healthy.

In addition to serving livestock producers, the Nebraska Veterinary Diagnostic Center provides training for large animal veterinarians. The center provides these future doctors with hands-on experience by studying specimens from current, real-life animal cases. University faculty instructors and researchers conduct tests and perform research in the center that impacts agriculture across the country.

This fall, as calves are preconditioned, weaned and sold, Korbelik says he hopes producers and veterinarians in Nebraska will consider choosing PYRAMID 5 + PRESPONSE SQ and SYNANTHIC to help maximize the health of their calves while supporting the future of veterinary medicine in Nebraska.

The gift from BIVI also provides support to the University of Nebraska’s current fundraising initiative, the Campaign for Nebraska: Unlimited Possibilities, which concludes on Dec. 31.
