A record number of donors, 60,571, committed $300.6 million to the University of Nebraska Foundation in fiscal year 2022 to support all campuses of the University of Nebraska. This marks the third consecutive year that giving eclipsed $300 million annually. Nearly 400 new funds were created, bringing the total number of funds managed by the foundation to 11,326. Gifts came from alumni, friends of the university, foundations and corporations and were distributed to all campuses of the University of Nebraska system: the University of Nebraska at Kearney, the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, the University of Nebraska at Omaha, the University of Nebraska Medical Center and its clinical partner Nebraska Medicine and the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture in Curtis. Gifts created new scholarships, faculty chairs and professorships, supported academic and athletic programs, furthered research, helped care for patients and constructed facilities for teaching, research and service. All gifts were directed to the University of Nebraska according to the donors’ designations. The foundation processed 16,502 requests from the university for payments and transfers from donor funds during the fiscal year. The University of Nebraska Foundation continues to operate efficiently and effectively, ranking among the top public universities for funds raised. The foundation had $3.0 billion in total assets under management as of June 30, 2022. More than 99% of all gifts are restricted by donors to specific university uses. The portion of assets that is endowed was valued at $2.1 billion on June 30, 2022. The five-year annualized return on the endowment was 6.0%. The endowment’s 10-year return as of June 30, 2022, was 6.8% and the since inception return — which dates to 1989, when modern tracking began — is 8.3%.
