SAMUEL BAK MUSEUM: THE LEARNING CENTER
The Samuel Bak Museum: The Learning Center will be a distinctive facility on UNO’s campus that will serve as the hub for intercultural dialogue and education. It will house UNO’s notable academic specializing in Holocaust and genocide studies, Human Rights, and Israel and Jewish Studies as well as the Office of Diversity, Equity, Access and Inclusion. The building will also be the home to an extraordinary gift of 512 plus works of art from the Pucker Gallery and world-renowned artist Samuel Bak. Over his lifetime, Bak weaved his Holocaust experience with his personal story to create an iconography of Jewish modern history. By exploring Bak’s work on the Holocaust and other examples of hate, collective violence and genocide, the Museum and Learning Center will serve as a safe space for students, staff, faculty and the greater community to dialogue and learn to combat prejudice with compassion, indifference with participation, myth and misinformation with knowledge.
A Phase 1 temporary space located at 2268 S 67th Street in Omaha, NE opened February 4, 2023.
