UNL Reading Center Fund

UNL Reading Center Fund

Nothing influences a child more, nor serves as a better prediction of how well they will do in school, than their ability to read. Struggling to read is frustrating for young readers and places stress on families who don't understand why their child may be lagging behind in school.

Programs like the Kit and Dick Schmoker Reading Center at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln address this need by providing quality tutoring for children/youth who are struggling with reading. At the same time, the Schmoker Reading Center provides hands-on training opportunities for UNL preservice teachers (undergraduates) and in-service teachers (graduate students who are already teaching in their own classrooms).

Books for Participants
Providing children with books appropriate for their reading level is a top priority of the Schmoker Reading Center. Books are not only used in tutoring sessions with UNL students, but are also made available for children to check out and take home. Gifts to purchase books will keep the Reading Center's library well-stocked for its participants.
