This magnificent clinical facility opened in May 2013. It features the latest in specialized care and diagnostic medicine including an advanced Diagnostic Center, the Carl Camras Center for Innovative Clinical Trials in Ophthalmology, and the Ocular Imaging Research and Reading Center. The Truhlsen Eye Institute is a vital resource to people suffering from blinding eye diseases such as macular degeneration, glaucoma, corneal dystrophies, uveitis and other ocular inflammatory diseases.
What few people realize is that by the year 2020 age-related eye diseases is estimated to increase by 30 percent in the U.S.! The Truhlsen Eye Institute enables the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences to educate the next generation of eye specialists, expected to double over the next 10 years, and provides the means to keep private ophthalmologist in local communities up-to-date on the most advanced surgical techniques.
