Jessica Lutton Bedient Memorial

The University of Nebraska Foundation and its family of employees are saddened by the death of friend and colleague Jessica (Lutton) Bedient on Oct. 12, 2010.

"Our hearts and prayers are with Jess' family, her husband, Tony, and her friends during this extremely difficult time," said Clarence Castner, president of the foundation. "Jess was a remarkable individual, a talented colleague, and she will be greatly missed by her foundation and university family."

Jessica joined the University of Nebraska Foundation in 2008 as a development officer for the College of Business Administration at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. In 2010, she began work from the foundation's Omaha office as director of development for the College of Public Affairs and Community Service and the College of Information Science and Technology at the University of Nebraska at Omaha.

Meaningful memorial funds have been established that align with Jessica's values and interests:

Jessica Lutton Study Abroad Fund
Students pursuing a minor in the Forsythe Family Program in Human Rights and Humanitarian Affairs at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, who, as part of their capstone experience within the minor, may choose to complete an international service learning project in the field of human rights or humanitarian affairs. Gifts to the Jessica Lutton Study Abroad Fund provide financial support for travel and related expenses to participating students.

Jessica Lutton Bedient Memorial Scholarship and Fellowship Fund
This endowed fund helps to provide scholarships or fellowships to students enrolled in the Grace Abbott School of Social Work within the College of Public Affairs and Community service at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. Eligible students are selected by the school’s scholarship committee and hold a desire to pursue a career in the field of child welfare.

Jessica Lutton Mission Trip Fund
Gifts to this fund support students participating in mission trips sponsored by the Newman Center at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

Joe Selig is senior vice president for UNL development at the University of Nebraska Foundation. Before joining the foundation in 2003, he provided 23 years of service to the UNL athletics department. He is an alumnus of the UNL College of Business where he received bachelor’s and MBA degrees.
