Jud W. Gurney, M.D. Professorship in Radiology
Dr. Jud W. Gurney, a world-renowned chest radiologist and long time faculty member in the Department of Radiology at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, passed away March 18, 2010. He lost his battle with cancer not long after receiving the diagnosis. His passing has left many UNMC faculty, residents and medical students paralyzed as Dr. Gurney's legacy is deeply personal and precious to all of us.
Born and educated in Nebraska, Dr. Gurney unselfishly gave of himself to his profession and the University. He served as president and past president of the Society of Thoracic Radiology and the American College of Radiology Nebraska Chapter. A complete list of his academic accomplishments would take many pages. However, he is most revered as an educator. Dr. Gurney set the standard in our department. He was a visiting professor or invited lecturer 54 times at some of the most widely respected hospitals in the United States and turned down countless others. He was uniformly respected and admired by our residents and medical students.
In 2002 Dr. Gurney was named the Charles A. Dobry Professor of Diagnostic Radiology.
To honor Dr. Gurney's life and recognize his accomplishments we would like to establish a $500,000 endowed professorship in his name that would forever be associated with the UNMC Department of Radiology. If all of us who knew and loved Jud contribute $10,000, I know we can accomplish this. Gifts, of any size, are greatly appreciated and will help establish an ongoing memorial, honoring a cherished colleague, teacher and friend. Donation information may be found below.
The Jud W. Gurney Professorship also will allow Dr. Gurney's legacy to continue to strengthen the Department of Radiology at UNMC by helping to attract and retain top-level faculty and academic leaders by supporting their research, teaching and clinical work.
We would be grateful for your donation.
