Support The Barbara Weitz Community Engagement Center

The Barbara Weitz Community Engagement Center (CEC) serves as the campus’s front door and the university’s signature outreach venue. The CEC supports an expansion of university-community partnerships, helps meet growing demands for community meetings and planning space, and extends the campus’s logistical resources to its community partners. UNO is among a vanguard of universities throughout the nation committed to a dynamic civic engagement and the CEC plays a vital role in contributing to UNO’s metropolitan mission. UNO is one of the few civically engaged universities with a dedicated facility for this endeavor.

The center’s physical space provides a central location with modern technology, as well as bright and flexible meeting spaces – both big and small – for the university and community to work side-by-side to improve the quality of life for those they serve. Meeting spaces are free to nonprofit, governmental and community organizations. The facility is also an office space for more than 30 nonprofit organizations.

A positive impact is apparent among building partner organizations and through meeting and events spaces by the community and UNO. Here is a snapshot of all that has been accomplished since opening in 2014.

  • $21+ million estimated savings through the CEC’s contributed space and IT (Information Technology) services saved by organizations that have used the spaces for workshops, training, conferences, dialogues and other meetings, and public events.
  • 1200+ unique groups who have used the spaces.
  • 63,000+ events hosted by the university, students, building partners, nonprofits and government organizations.
  • 473,000+ estimated attendance of UNO and community meetings and events hosted in the spaces.
