Executive Profile

Brian Hastings joined the University of Nebraska Foundation as president and CEO in September 2012, becoming the organization's ninth leader.

He previously served as senior associate vice president and campaign executive director at The Ohio State University, overseeing central fundraising programs, co-leading integration of universitywide advancement functions (alumni relations, communications, and development) and teaming with university and volunteer leadership in planning and executing a $2.5 billion campaign for Ohio State.

With more than 20 years of experience in higher education fundraising, Hastings has broad experience and success ranging from annual giving to principal gifts, including various senior leadership roles. In addition to his service with the University of Nebraska Foundation and Ohio State, he also was on staff at the University of Dayton.

Hastings provides leadership and guidance on issues of concern to institutionally related foundations as a member of the National Committee for Institutionally Related Foundations with the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE). He formerly served a term on the CASE Commission on Philanthropy and has enjoyed serving as a faculty member for national fundraising conferences, including the Summer Institute in Educational Fundraising hosted annually by CASE.

Hastings is a first-generation college graduate and lifelong Midwesterner. He and his wife, Sharon, have two children and reside in Lincoln.

The vision of the University of Nebraska Foundation is to be a trusted partner for those who support support the University of Nebraska. We work every day to grow the relationships and resources needed to meet that goal. Each of our staff members is dedicated to helping our donors and alumni support the University of Nebraska at Kearney, University of Nebraska–Lincoln, University of Nebraska at Omaha, and University of Nebraska Medical Center and its health network partner Nebraska Medicine.

To serve and engage the university’s alumni, the foundation fully integrated with the UNK Alumni Association in 2010 and with the UNO Alumni Association in 2016. We partially integrated with the Nebraska Alumni Association in 2008 and have had an affiliation with the UNMC Alumni Association since 2009. The foundation formed an affiliation with Nebraska Medicine in 2017 to manage its development program and funds.
