Dr. Ray H. Steinacher Memorial Endowed Scholarship for Freshmen Up Fund
This endowed scholarship was established in 2010 by members of the Dental Class of 1970 in conjunction with their 40th reunion gift to the UNMC College of Dentistry and to honor a longtime, respected dental faculty member, Dr. Ray H. Steinacher, who passed away in September, 2009.
Members of the Class of 1970 hope that alumni, faculty, staff, patients, and friends of the College of Dentistry across the generations will contribute to the Dr. Ray H. Steinacher Memorial Endowed Scholarship Fund for Freshmen Up as a means of supporting dentistry's future – its students – and honoring a beloved faculty member who gave so much to so many at the UNMC College of Dentistry. The concept of "Freshmen Up" in the title of this scholarship fund is to complement the historical tradition of "Senior Down".
Dr. Steinacher was a 1943 graduate of the University of Nebraska College of Dentistry and dedicated his professional life and career to teaching dentistry at his alma mater. As a gifted faculty member from soon after his graduation until his retirement in 1986, Dr. Steinacher served as a highly capable clinical instructor and also as the college's pre-dentistry faculty advisor for incoming freshmen students. His devotion to encouraging and teaching dental students, particularly first-year dental students, to master the delivery of preeminent clinical care with compassion for the patients, provided generations of University of Nebraska dental students with the skills and professionalism to succeed in and nobly serve dentistry.
