Paul Olson Excellence Fund

Paul Olson Excellence Fund

If you're visiting this webpage you're likely familiar with, took a class from or were advised by Professor Paul Olson. You may have called him teacher, mentor or friend and if you did, you certainly know of his commitment to the state, the university and education. Colleagues and students alike have long been inspired by Paul's passion for education and his way of helping students truly engage with a topic. It is with this commitment in mind the English Department established the Paul Olson Excellence Fund. One of Paul's greatest passions has been improving local schools and communities. Paul has always taught that our region is a place to keep vibrant, healthy, and ethical through the work of schools. In fact, his educational philosophy is at the heart of The Nebraska Writing Project (NeWP), directed by faculty members in the English Department. For three decades NeWP has supported teachers across Nebraska. In an average year, NeWP works with 500 teachers, generating 30,000 contact hours through 60 different events, including in-service programs, graduate classes, and a summer institute. The Nebraska Writing Project truly reflects Paul's commitment to community-based and community-conscious education. It therefore seems fitting that the Paul Olson Excellence Fund supports the Nebraska Writing Project, the department's primary outreach program to teachers in Nebraska. We hope you will consider supporting this fund!
