UNL Herpetology Lab/Program Fund

UNL Herpetology Lab/Program Fund

UNL’s Herpetology program seeks to advance our understanding and conservation of frogs, lizards, salamanders, turtles, and snakes. Students gain important experience by assisting the manager in caring for snakes, turtles, and frogs in the live animal lab. Many of these animals are used in educational programs designed to raise awareness about herpetofauna and the important role they have in Nebraska’s environment. While the program specializes in herpetofauna native to Nebraska, its efforts extend to non-native species as well. The lab’s findings have advanced our understanding of how to care for captive species which may help preserve endangered species. Finally, the herpetology program monitors the range and status of frogs, lizards, salamanders, turtles, and snakes in Nebraska to help ensure the presence of these species for future generations.
