University of Nebraska Foundation announces leadership change

Peter J. Whitted, M.D., chair of the board of directors for the University of Nebraska Foundation announced today changes to the organization’s leadership.
“The University of Nebraska Foundation has accomplished great things for students, the university and the state during its 75-year history,” Whitted said. “We are pleased to announce the position of president and chief executive officer of the foundation, held most recently by Clarence Castner, will be served on an interim basis by John Gottschalk, retired chief executive officer and publisher of the Omaha World-Herald and a longtime supporter of the University of Nebraska. We appreciate John’s ongoing commitment to the foundation and his support for the university.”
Whitted said a search will begin for a permanent president and CEO.
“We are very thankful for the work Clarey Castner has accomplished during his time with the foundation, and we wish him the best in his future endeavors.”
Whitted said the foundation is in very strong fiscal health and is well on its way to successfully completing its current fundraising efforts through the Campaign for Nebraska.
“The campaign is a remarkable effort to raise $1.2 billion to fund university priorities,” Whitted said. “Thanks to the generous support of donors, that investment will be used to fund student scholarships, faculty recruitment, research, capital improvements and other program support for the University of Nebraska, a top-tier institution and a vital economic driver for the state.”
The University of Nebraska Foundation is an independent, nonprofit organization that has connected the dreams and passions of donors to the mission of the university for more than 75 years. In 2011, donors gave a record $172 million in gifts for scholarships, academic programs, medical research and other priorities at the university.
