Phonathon caller employs super power of speech

Danielle Archuleta has the tables turned on her as she answers questions about herself

Flight. Invisibility. Incredible strength.

If you could have any super power, which would it be?

For Danielle Archuleta, a junior biology major and soccer player at UNO it would be the gift of speech. She’d choose the ability to speak in all languages so she could grasp people’s hearts and attention with her words.

You might speak with her on the phone some evening, if you’re on our phonathon list. She’s one of our student callers – the students from all the University of Nebraska campuses who call you and ask you questions about your mailing address, if we have a correct e-mail address and if you would like to give a gift to support your college.

We thought it’d be fun to turn the tables and ask Danielle and other student callers some questions in this feature called “Who’s Calling You?”

Could you live without your computer and cell phone?

I have been living without a computer for quite some time now. But as for my cell phone, I don’t think that I can even go a couple minutes without wondering where it is.

If you could have a free trip anywhere in the world, where would it be?

Barcelona, Spain. I have always wanted to go there and I hope to make it there before I die.

What’s the best part of being part of the phonathon?

I love doing it because I love interacting with people. Even though I can’t see them face-to-face, I still just love talking to people. It’s really cool to call people who have been here and have gone through what I’m doing and to try to rely on them to help contribute to what I’m trying to succeed in and help our campus succeed.

What’s the worse part?

When they hang up on me. But that’s just people. People are cranky sometimes.

If you could be a donor to NU someday, where would you give your money?

I would want to just donate to the UNO campus as a whole because I feel our chancellor and our deans would come up with the best way to use that money.

What is your favorite line from a movie?

“No eating here tonight, whoa. No eating here tonight, you on a diet.” – “Finding Nemo.”

If you could only eat the same thing for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Pickles.

What would you rather do – skydiving or bungee jumping?

I would rather go skydiving.

If you could go back and change something about your high school days, what would it be?

To have tried harder in school and not have slacked off.

If you thought no one was looking, what would be the one thing that you would do?

Sing and dance in the rain.

What is one thing that annoys/disgusts you?

People who walk really slowly across crosswalks when they know they are holding cars up.

If you were on a deserted island with one person, who would you want it to be?

My mom. She would be able to keep me sane.

Do you have a nickname?

I have a lot of nicknames: Dani, D, Elle, Arch, Archie, and Brooklyn.

What is one event that has had the biggest impact on you and your life?

Getting saved my freshman year, and living my life for God instead of this world.

What is your dream car?

Range Rover.

What do you love about soccer?

I love the competitiveness of the sport. It’s a passion of mine – something that’s driven me for the last 13 years of my life. It helps bring an identity to myself, being able to call myself a collegiate soccer player.

I currently play forward, which means I’m technically among the people who are supposed to score the goals. I’m not always successful at that. But I try my hardest to do as much as I can for my team.

If you could spend the day with a celebrity who would it be?

Christiano Ronaldo.

What was your favorite cartoon growing up?

“SpongeBob SquarePants.”

What is your idea of a perfect day?

To have it be 68- to 70-degree weather and to be outside all day in the sun under the trees as they are changing colors and sipping on a pumpkin spice latte from Starbucks and then going thrifting with friends and decorating for the seasons.
