On July, 1, 2003, UNL began the nation's newest Department of Statistics. The department merged what used to be the Department of Biometry, which was part of the Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources (IANR), and the statistics division of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, a part of the College of Arts and Sciences. The department offers graduate degrees of a Master of Science and a Doctor of Philosophy in Statistics and an undergraduate minor in Statistics.
The department reports jointly to IANR and to Arts and Sciences. The department maintains its traditional ties to research collaboration and consulting in agriculture, its strong ties to the Gallup Research Center for survey statistics, and to teaching a variety of statistical methods courses, graduate and undergraduate, to students throughout UNL. In addition, they are increasingly involved in research and teaching programs throughout the university to provide the strongest possible statistics infrastructure, one that is worthy of a first-class research university.
