Support the Department of Geography

Geography is a discipline that offers unique insights about past, present and future issues involving natural resources, culture, economics and politics. Geographers study the spatial dimensions of human societies and earth’s environment. For more than a century, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln has been internationally recognized as a center of excellence in geographic education and research.

Through its Faculty of Geography and Geographic Information Science, the School of Natural Resources (SNR) offers undergraduate, MA and PhD degrees in Geography. Particularly strong programs exist in:

  • Geographic Information Science, capitalizing on the strengths and facilities of the SNR Center for Advanced Land Management Information Technologies (CALMIT)
  • Historical and Human Geography, including foci on historical settlement of the Great Plains, environmental perception and political behavior
  • Natural Resources, emphasizing geospatial dimensions of soils, conservation biology, water resources, natural hazards, climate and related areas
  • Community and Regional Planning, a cross-disciplinary doctoral program combining strengths of the Faculty of Geography and GIScience and UNL’s Community and Regional Planning program
