Support the Department of Psychology
The Department of Psychology consists of 26 faculty serving approximately 800 undergraduate majors/double majors, 250 minors, and 100 graduate students at UNL. The Department also provides much teaching to non-majors throughout the university.
Psychology is a uniquely integrative science spanning the natural sciences, social sciences, health and biomedical sciences, information
sciences, business, law and social policy, and into the humanity disciplines of philosophy and religion. Because of this wide range of applications, many students seek Psychology coursework. Undergraduate majors include persons who intend to pursue graduate work in psychology or professional education in other areas (e.g., dentistry, law, education, social work, medicine, physical therapy, religion), as well as those who major in psychology as part of a general liberal arts education. Psychology is the largest undergraduate major in the College and second largest in the University.
The Department has one of the largest and premiere graduate programs at UNL and focuses on five areas of psychology: Biopsychology, Clinical, Cognitive, Social, and Developmental. Additionally, the psychology department offers an interdisciplinary program at the graduate level focusing on Psychology and Law.
Department of Psychology faculty and students conduct influential research across a variety of domains, including basic, applied, and translational (“bench to bedside”) endeavors. Interdisciplinary “signature” research areas include: (a) biobehavioral and mental health; (b) decision and judgment processes; and (c) cultural and contextual influences on psychological and behavioral processes.
The Department emphasizes melding of scientific training with real-world applicability, a strong focus on faculty-mentored research, and the opportunity for the students to participate in co-curricular activities which enrich the learning environment.
Private support is critical in funding the ambitious research and teaching agenda of the department.
