The UNK College of Education has a rich tradition that began in 1905 when UNK was established first as the Nebraska State Normal School at Kearney. Today the College of Education continues that rich tradition with a vision for a bright future that we hope includes you. The College of Education consists of five outstanding academic departments and are staffed with the finest faculty members in the country. The college currently enrolls 1,200 students. The curriculum in the college is designed to be student-centered and intellectually challenging, while preparing

students through a variety of field and internship experiences that offer “real life” educational opportunities that are often the highlight of the students’ academic careers.

The mission for the College of Education is:

To prepare, inspire, and support our students to become caring, reflective, and competent professionals in a democratic, multicultural society. This preparation shall be realized through our tradition of outstanding teaching, relevant research and meaningful community engagement.

Our vision for the College of Education is to be nationally recognized for our outstanding graduates, highly qualified faculty and staff, and exemplary academic programs. We aspire to build on our reputation to achieve extraordinary results in the areas of learning, research, technology, outreach, diversity and quality of life enrichment for all we serve.

One Room, One Teacher UNK Scholarship Fund

The University of Nebraska at Kearney has created the One Room, One Teacher UNK Scholarship Fund to honor rural educators. Gifts to this fund will provide scholarships to UNK students interested in pursuing education as a career.
