The Charles W. Durham School of Architectural Engineering & Construction is the only program in the nation that combines these two disciplines under one school, providing students a comprehensive building system education.
Both disciplines are taught at the Peter Kiewit Institute in Omaha, which provides a "living laboratory" environment; construction management courses are also offered on the UNL campus in Lincoln. While other schools have similar programs, the Durham School is the only one offering the "total built environment" approach, wherein a single team of architects and builders design and construct a building rather than each discipline working separately. The education students receive through the Durham School closely mirrors how things are done in the real world, giving students an advantage after graduation.
